Tips and Tricks

Home made Febreeze!!

I found this recipe on Pintrest, made it an love it!

What you'll need:
  • a small spray bottle
  • 1/2 cup rubbing alcohol or vodka
  • essential oil
  • 1 cup water
Fill the spray bottle with 1 cup water and 1/2 cup rubbing alcohol or vodka. (Note from the original pintrest post: that you will be able to smell the alcohol, but only for a minute or so... after that things will just smell lovely. Rubbing alcohol has a stronger smell than vodka!)

You'll now add the essential oils - I started with 30 drops and then worked my way up to about 45. I used Aveda "Madagascar" oil and it was great, but I would also recommend any citrus or mint essecial oils too.

I keep small bottles of this in the bathrooms and use one I especially like in my master bedroom.

Not only do these save money, but they smell better and are WAY better for you than the commercial variety. Happy Spritzing!!

For the last 4 years I have been making and using my own
Laundry detergent. I figured out the cost runs about
12 cents a gallon and you don't have all of the extra
stabilizer ingredients and such going down your drain, literally!

Best Ever Laundry Soap Recipe

Ingredients:
13 Cups HOT water
4T Arm and Hammer Washing Soda
2T Borax
1 Oz. Castile Soap (Bonner's is good)
a few drops of essential oil (optional)

Pour hot water into a 1 gallon milk jug or empty Laundry soap container.
Then add all of the remaining ingredients. Shake to mix.

Use 1/2 cup for small loads and 1 cup for large loads.

I filled an empty wine bottle with the detergent and a spout to use to pre-treat, and I use fragranced white vinegar as fabric softener.

Best Fabric Softener Recipe

Ingredients:
1 gallon jug of white vinegar
1 handful of herbs (I use mint, and Lavender)

Place 1 handful of herbs into the opened container of vinegar. Set in a dark cupboard for 3-4 weeks. Strain out herbs and use vinegar in place of fabric softener in your washer.
